How to clear Thunderbird IMAP Cache

You might want to clear Thunderbird IMAP cache due to some reason. I just tried to clear my Thunderbird cache due to some privacy issue as it cache my email content on the public machine. To prevent Thunderbird from auto cache all your the IMAP email at your local machine, you need to disable the sync option for your IMAP account.

To clear Thunderbird IMAP cache, follow the steps below:-

First, start your Thunderbird
Go to Tools -> Account Settings -> Select “Server Settings”
Highlight and Copy “Local Directory” path
Close your Thunderbird now.
Paste the path to Window Explorer, now you should see a list of files.
Highlight all the file EXCEPT msgFilterRules.dat and delete all.
Now start your Thunderbird again, your IMAP cache should be removed by now.

Keyboard vibration in Android is a nice to have feature at least for me. You can disable the keyboard vibration in Android just few touch away. Furthermore, disable the keyboard vibration can save your battery and make it last longer!

To disable keyboard vibration in Android Phone, follow the steps below:-

Go to Home -> Settings -> Language and Keyboard
Select “Touch Input” or “Touch Input Chinese”
Look for item “Vibrate when typing” and un-tick it
Done. You just disable the keyboard vibration in your Android Phone!

How to uninstall / remove application from Android

Just got an Android phone – HTC Desire and installed some applications on it. After tat i’m looking for how to remove application from Android, but cant really figure out how to uninstall application from Android. After some help from google, i’m able to remove the application from my Android machine.

To uninstall or remove application from Andoird, follow the steps below:-

Go to Market -> click on the “Downloads” tab
You will see all your installed application, now select the application you want to remove
The application detail page will show up with 2 button – Open and Uninstall. Select the “Uninstall” button and just Click “OK” button for the confirmation
Done, you just remove the application from your Android machine

How to stop faces scanning in Picasa 3

Just wanted to stop the faces scanning in Picasa 3. This faces scanning seems never stop and slow down the computer. I think you should stop the faces scanning if you just installed Picasa 3 and you have a lot of photo pending to import into Picasa. Once you stop the faces scanning, you will see a large difference in the speed of import photo.

To stop faces scanning in Picasa 3, follow the steps below:

Start your Picasa 3
Click on Tools -> Options
Click on “Name Tags” tab and uncheck the “Enable Face Detection” and “Enable Suggestion” and click “OK”
Once done, you will see Picasa will stop faces scanning immediately

How to install flash player in Ubuntu

Just installed Ubuntu 10.4 to my USB drive but it dont have flash player installed. After some googling, i found some ways to install flash player in Ubuntu. I tried to download the flash player from Adobe website but it shows different version of linux package, and i really not sure how to install it (yes i know i’m a noob :p) Finally i found the most easiest way to install flash player in Ubuntu 10.4.

To install flash player in Ubuntu, follow the steps below:-

Start your Terminal
Now enter the command below:-
```
sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-* --purge 
```
This command is to remove all the previous version of flash player (it might be old flash player that doesn’t work anymore)
Now install the latest flash player using the command below:-
```
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree 
```
It will prompt you for confirmation to install additional package. Just enter “Y”
Once the process finish, restart your Firefox and you can try to view Youtube video now

How to enhance and increase battery life for N900

Most Nokia N900 user facing short battery life like me. All of us is trying to enhance and increase the battery life for N900. After some testing, i manage to increase my N900 battery life. Just change few settings and u’ll be able to increase the N900 battery life.

To enhance and increase the battery life for Nokia N900, follow the steps below:

Do not use Dual Network mode. Select only 3G or GSM mode. In Dual network mode your phone will keep scanning for the available the network. Constant scanning consume a lot of power.

Go to Settings -> Phone -> Network Mode
Select only 3G or GSM mode only
```
Disable Wifi Connection with Wifi Switcher when you do not use it. Wifi Connection consume a lot of battery. Disable it when you do not use it and it will save you lots of battery!

Go to App Manager -> Download -> All -> Wifi Switcher
```
To use Wifi Switcher after install, tab on the Battery icon and the Wifi Switcher will show in the drop down menu
Disable unused Widget. Most widget perform periodic action (every 5 / 10 min) to fetch latest data and hence it cost power!

Disable Desktop View that you do not use.

- Click on anywhere on your desktop and Settings button will appear at the top right corner.
- Click on the Settings button -> Desktop Menu -> Manage View -> uncheck the view that you do not use

Do not use any monitoring tools (eg. Battery eye, Battery Graph, etc). These tools collect data (perform I/O read write that consume power) periodically (every few minutes) at the background. Uninstall it and u’ll notice a longer battery life!

How to turn off 3G in Nokia N900

Many says that disable or turn off 3G will save more battery life for Nokia N900 phone. By default, Nokia N900 is set at Dual mode (auto detect 3G and GSM). If 3G is not available it will auto switch to GSM. But many believe that the constant scan for available connection (3G or GSM) will drain the battery life faster. So many recommend to use a single connection mode or disable 3G connection if you doesn’t use it.

To turn off 3G in Nokia N900, follow the steps below:-

Go to “Settings” -> “Phone”
Scroll down and look for “Network Mode”
Change the “Network Mode” from “Dual” to GSM
If you just want to use 3G then you may set to 3G
Once choose, click on “Save” button and you are done!
If you choose GSM, then you will see number 2.5 showing beside the battery icon at the top indicator bar.

How to import contacts from Mac to Nokia N900

You can easily import your Mac OS X contacts to Nokia N900 thru the vCard export. If you want to transfer the contacts from old phone to N900, then you to do few more steps only. You need iSync to import your old phone contacts to Mac address book, then transfer the contacts from Mac address book to N900 using vCard format.

To import contacts from Mac to Nokia N900, follow the steps below:-

First, open your “Address Book”
Hightlight all the contacts that you want to export and click “File” -> “Export” -> “vCard” and save the vCard file at Desktop
Now trasfer the vCard file to your Nokia N900 thru Bluetooth
Once transferred, Open the File Manager from your Nokia N900 and look for the vCard file you just received and double click on it. Nokia N900 will prompt you for import the contacts, and you select “Yes”
Once the import finish, you should see all the contacts at your Nokia N900 Address book
