How to find your MAC address in Mac and Window

I use MAC address for my DHCP IP settings. So I always need to find MAC address from the new machine that plug into my network. Without the MAC address, user will not be assigned any IP address. And this helps to enforce certain level of security. Ya i know it’s not the best solution, but at least it block some newbie :p

To find your MAC address on Mac OS X, follow the steps below:-

Click on Apple -> “About this Mac” -> “More Info”
Click on “Network” at the left navigation and you will see your MAC address as the image below:-

To find your MAC address on Windows XP/2000/Vista/7 , follow the steps below:-

Start -> Run -> type “cmd” and enter
Enter the command below:

ipconfig /all
```
The “Physical Address” is your MAC address.

How to delete call history in Skype

By default Skype save your call n chat in history. But, You can delete those call history in Skype. Of course, some of you might want to delete the call history due to some privacy reason. Here’s i’ve included the way to delete skype call history in Mac and Window platform.

To delete call history in Skype (Windows), follow the steps below:-

Start and Login to your Skype
Click on Tools -> Options -> Privacy Settings Tab -> click on “Clear History” button.
Pop up window will appear for confirming the delete of call history, just confirm and your call history in skype will be deleted.

For Mac user, here’s the steps to delete call history in Skype:-

Start and Login to your Skype
Click on Skype -> Preferences -> Chat tab -> click on “Clear History” button.
Pop up window will appear to confirm the deletion of call history. Just confirm and all the call history in skype will be deleted.

How to enable Auto Save in Word 2008 for Mac

Loss of data is no good, enable Auto Save feature in Word 2008 can prevent tat. With Auto Save feature turned on, Word will auto save every x minutes you set for it. Word 2008 for Mac has different UI than Window. Here’s the tutorial for the Mac user that run Word 2008.

To Enable Auto Save in Word 2008 for Mac, follow the steps below:-

Start your Word 2008 and Click on Word -> Preference -> Save
Once you click on Save, it will show another screen. Now you tick “Save AutoRecovery info every 10 minutes. (you can change the minutes to your preference) and click OK.
Done. You just enable the Auto Save feature in your Word 2008 for Mac

How to enable task manager in Win XP

A friend ask me how to enable task manager in Win XP. His PC task manager got disabled by malware. Whenever he right click on taskbar, he will see a gray out “Task Manager”. Even he press CTRL + ALT + DEL, it will pop up “Task manager has been disabled by your administrator”

To enable task manager in Win XP, follow the steps below:-

Click Start -> Run -> type “regedit”

Look for

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Look for a name “DisableTaskMgr” and change it’s value to “0″
Reboot your machine and your task manager will be back.

How to disable auto start for Windows Live Messenger

Got asked on how to disable Window Live Messenger from auto start. It’s annoying to see Windows Live Messenger auto start everytime. I personally disabled almost all application from auto start (except anti virus and some important one). Yes, no doubt it’s convenient but it slow the computer from being start up.

To disable Windows Live Messenger from auto start, follow the steps below:-

Launch Windows Live Messenger -> click on the “Show Menu” button at the top right. (refer to image below) -> Tools -> Options
Option Window will popup, Click on “Sign in” at the left navigation, and uncheck the box “Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when i log on to Windows” -> and Click “OK”
Done, you have just disable Window Live Messenger from auto start. So, you shouldnt see any window live messenger at your next window start up.

Show Desktop Shortcut in Window 7

I notice Show Desktop shortcut is missing when Window 7 started. After 15 min of clicking, i found the Show Desktop shortcut in Window 7. The Show Desktop Shortcut in Window 7 is located at the bottom right of the screen!

Just move your mouse to the bottom right, there is a little small button.
That is the Show Desktop button, of course click on it will show the desktop. Funny thing is, if you stop your mouse pointer on top of the button for 2 sec, it will transparent all the application window and let you see thru the desktop. This is a new features call “Aero Peek”

The alternative way to have Show Desktop Shortcut effect is using keyboard shortcut.
The shortcut key for show desktop is still the same:-
Press Window + D

How to change wallpaper in Window 7

Just installed Window 7 and trying to change wallpaper. The way window 7 change wallpaper is a bit different compare to Win XP. As Wallpaper been classified as personalization in Window 7.

To change wallpaper in Window 7, follow the steps below:

Right click on Desktop (empty space) -> Personalize
Window 7 Personalization window will appear, now click on the “Desktop Background” at the bottom of the window
Desktop background window will appear. Now you can change the wallpaper that you like here. Click on any of the wallpaper that you want and click OK. Change the value in “Picture Location” will give you more options.

Download and install Ms Office Compatibility Pack
Once installed, double click on .docx file, you should be able to open .docx file in Ms Office 2003 by now
